Abstract
In the present study we carried out the GC-MS of lipid diethyl ether extract of the Lotus halophilus boiss et spruner aerial parts to identify its chemical compositions. Fatty acids of the saponifiable fraction revealed the presence of twelve saturated fatty acids and eleven unsaturated fatty acids, in addition a series of (C4-C69) hydrocarbons and three sterols were identified in the unsaponifiable fraction. Cytotoxic and antioxidant activities were carried out for the ether extract of the plant. The ether extract showed cytotoxic activity against HEPG2 and MCF7, while it was unable to inhibit the growth of HCT; also it showed significant antioxidant activity.
Keywords: Lotus halophilus, GC-MS, fatty acids, hydrocarbons, sterols, cytotoxic andanti-oxidant activities.
