Alternative Funding of Academic Libraries in Nigeria: Case Studies of Hezekiah Oluwasanmi Library ,Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife and Wusto Library, Wesley University of Science and Technology, Ondo

Abstract

The author examine the present sources of income in the two academic libraries and come up with a suggestion that alternative sources of funds are necessary for the survival of academic libraries in the 21st century . The researcher makes use of interview, documentary evidence for the study. The results of the study reveal that there other sources of incomes that were neglected which could have fetched them a lot of money to keep afloat.  Such area include, binding of theses, reference services, printing, indexing and abstracting, consultancy services, e-resources, internet search, grants and aids. The study concludes that the management of both institutions to have a written policy these alternative sources in order to give legal backing to the library to effectively embark on the exercise to avoid crises and lack of understanding on the part of the users.
